What a weekend it has been here in Abersoch! Glass Butter Beach 09 went off with a bang and hundreds made the trip to Abersoch to watch some great wakeboarding from a host of UK riders and enjoy great parties around the village. The weekend began on Friday evening with a warm up party at the Vaynol. Djs Play and Bast were spinning their wheels of steel and getting everyone in the mood. On Saturday afternoon the crowds gathered on the beach to watch the practice day for the wakeboard event. The riders were able to hit the monster slider The Relentless Leviathan for the first time. This monster slider was built for Wakestock to test the rider’s skills to the limits. There was some great wakeboard action on show to keep the crowds entertained along with freebies from sponsors Relentless, Hyperlite and of course Glass Butter. Once the action on the beach had drawn to a close the crowds made their way to the PB for the first after party. A great night was had by all at this sell out event as revellers partied into the early hours to music from the likes of Fran and Josh, The Kickbacks, Tim Lyall and DJ Play. The riding resumed on Sunday afternoon when the competition for the title of Glass Butter 09 champ meant some radical wakeboard action in the water off the main beach. The sun was out as the competition began and the riders pulled out all the stops to see if they could be the ones to pull of the best tricks in their timed round to impress the judges. It was Freddie Carter who skated away with the Glass Butter longboard trophy after a hard fought final against Sam Weinstein. Top placed female went to Alexandria Gardiner. After the beach action had finished the party began again at the PB. The prize giving took place first as winner Freddie is only 14 and his dad had to drive him back down south for school the next day! With the prize giving out of the way, the music kicked off with local boys Snatch taking to the stage. They belted out their hits followed by banging sets from Tim Lyall and DJ Play. A perfect way to end a great weekend. For all the results from the heats of the wakeboarding and to see images form the event go to www.glassbutter.com or check out www.alliancewake.co.uk. We can't wait for 2010!

West Coast Surf Competition- 10th / 11th October

Who could believe it is almost that time of year again, the annual West Coast Surf Competition. It is the pinnacle event of the Llyn Surf calendar and produces some serious talent in the breakers year after year.

This year’s competition will be slightly different to previous events. There will be three divisions consisting of:

- Open Event, which is open to everyone and limited to 32 entries

-Women’s Division for women over the age of 16, which is limited to 16 entries

- Junior Division for girls and boys under the age of 16, which is limited to 16 entries

The competition will be organised into heats with will take place on Saturday 10th October, the finals will then be held on Sunday 11th October.  Weather permitting the competition will take place in Porth Neigwl (Hell’s Mouth). The prizes are truly exceptional this year with a brand new surfboard on offer donated by O’Shea, a limited edition Rip Curl electric guitar and a brand new Rip Curl E3 Bomb winter wetsuit.

Entries are to be made by email to surf@westcoastsurf.co.uk stating your name, age and division that you wish to enter. Entries are £5 and you will need to request an entry form from West Coast. West Coats have emphasised that entries will not be taken on the weekend itself, it is anticipated that the entries will fill up very quickly and so if you want to be in with a chance on competing you need to send your entry now. West Coast will be operating a reserve list so if you do not make the list for the initial competition you may be informed nearer the actual weekend by email that you have made it to the heats.

All communication will be made by email so if you enter make sure you keep checking your emails for update or any changes to the location due to the weather,

There will also be a cracking musical line up. The legendary Power Boat Club will be hosting one of its last nights in the village before it is ripped down. The Hookes boys (Headland) will be teaming up with the Williams brother (one half of Snatch) to perform at this one off gig.

You can expect some great music, an amazing atmosphere and lots of familiar faces at one of the last guilty pleasure venues of the village.  It will be a brilliant way to round off a season in Abersoch that will not be the same again as we wave goodbye to the veteran venue of the village that is the PB.
