It was a great day down on the beach yesterday as crowds gathered to support teams entering the White Stuff Sandblast 5 a side football tournament which formed part of Tidal Aid. The teams turned up bright and early to warm up in time for the 10am start. There were 8 teams battling it out for the title of Sandblast 2009 champions. All the teams were in great spirits and enjoying the sunshine down on the beach. There were some hard fought battles but it was the boys from Norfolk n Chance who won the final. They beat Wild Ones and went away with the trophy and goodie bags provided by White Stuff. White Stuff would like to thank Miles Pickering kindly refereeing all morning and all those that helped to make the event a success.

Eric Innes, an ex army serviceman is Kayaking round Britain for the chairty Help for Heros. He has already raised over £10,000 for the charity and is still on his journey to finish his round Britain Circuit.

This Tuesday (25th August) Eric made it to Aberdaron. Here is an extract from his blog detailing his passage through our local waters:

"What a nightmare trying to get a phone connection. No way could I get a signal, so no contact with the outside world until today.

Left Aberystwyth on Sunday, had a good paddle to Towyn, about 18 miles. I met up with an old army colleague, Bob Hawkes, who very kindly put me and Yvonne up for the night and took us out for a lovely meal. Bob and I had a good old chat about the good old days when we were paddling. Bob taught me my sea kayaking skills, and then later I too got a job as an Instructor with Bob at the Training school. Thanks Bob and Katrina, really enjoyed meeting up again.

Monday Left Towyn, for a tiny bay in Aberdaron. Beautiful place. Stayed in a lovely B&B owned by Jan and Steve. Jan is a Yorkshire lass and Steve, a retired policeman is a born an bred Welshman. Jan and Steve are getting married next month and wait ’til you hear this. They have asked their wedding guests to donate to H4H, instead of buying wedding presents, not only that, they gave us free accommodation and food. People’s kindness is just overwhelming, thank you both very much. I have to say, it was great to hear a Yorkshire accent Jan.

Tuesday 25th Heading towards Caernarvon today. Have stopped just short. Going through Bardsey Sound was pretty rough, but once I turned the corner, it was a great paddle, even th sun was shining."

Clwb Abersoch entertained local and visiting children throughout the summer with loads of fun all in the heart of Abersoch at the local school Ysgol Abersoch. We spoke to organiser Jess Booth who told us what was available and just what the kids got up to. This summer they launched a Junior Life-guarding Program with Johnny Robinson from Offaxis. Children had the opportunity to learn basic first aid skills, water safety and join in fitness & surfing activities. Back at the Clwb they had street dance, tennis, fashion, arts and crafts, orienteering, map reading, pitching tents, athletics and conservation activities. Each week had a different theme, all set in a fun & bilingual environment. They will be open during October half term with a Halloween Party on the Friday. Please stop by and see what they are up to! Any enquiries please call Jess Booth on 07977426389.
