ABERSOCH 10K 2010

Nearly 500 entries and thousands of spectators watched the 2nd Abersoch 10K take place this weekend and what a success it was. The weather was in typical Abersoch form with sun and light winds over Cardigan Bay and the outstanding 10K course came into its own taking the event to a new heights only in its second year.


It was a day of great running for all ages & abilities with 1K, 2K, 3K and 10K races taking place with a total of 750 runners enjoying the picturesque multi-terrain course along roads, tracks and the stunning Abersoch Beach. The main event is always the Abersoch 10K, starting in the village overlooking the harbour and running through the main high street and up to Sarn Bach, tracking round Abersoch Bay and up to the highest point in Porth Tocyn overlooking Barsdey Island. Then sweeping back down through Sarn Bach and onto the Golf Course before joining the end of Abersoch Beach with the final mile stretching along the shoreline to the finish below South Caernarfonshire Yacht Club.


Former European Cross Country champion Nick Swinburn took the title for the second year running with a time of 33:21 second was Matthew Roberts in 34:13 and Brendan Rothery took third in a time of 34:59. In the girls the title was taken by Laura Chambers in 38:05 closely followed by Jane Evans in 38:22, 2009 winner Lizzie Liver took 3rd with a time of 40:29 who all took a share of the £1,500 prize money.

The Wombat 3k Beach Race was also held that day and attaracted nearly 200 entrants. Is proved hugely popular with competitors of all ages who gathered on the beach to tackle the course. Many of the entrants then went on to run the 10k! The race took in the whole of the beach down to the groynes and back.
