SUMMER EXHIBITION NOW OPEN AT ORIEL PLAS GLYN Y WEDDW The summer exhibition is now open at Oriel Plas Glyn y Weddw in Llanbedrog and features work from over 38 artists including Ceri Aukland Davies, William Selwyn and local artist Therese Urbanska. Also exhibiting at the gallery is Argentian artist Rosana Ibarrola whose work “The Art of Genesis” is a collection of paintings and drawings inspired by the experiences of women who have affected by breast cancer or had preventative surgery. Local resident Helen Proud had the idea that art could be used to wake people up to breast cancer prevention through the work the Genesis Appeal does, and also that all women can minimise breast cancer risk through lifestyle choices. Helen also wanted to take away any unnecessary fear from other women contemplating the options of preventative mastectomies due to genetic faults and of how reconstruction looks. So with these rather ambitious hopes Helen approached figurative artists Rosana Ibarolla and requested that she paint her portrait post-surgery, Rosana pulled out all the stops and decided to support the Genesis Appeal by painting not just one, but a whole series of women; some of whom have had or have breast cancer, and some of whom, like Helen, have evaded it. The Genesis Appeal is the only national charity in the UK entirely devoted to breast cancer prevention – you can read more on “The Art of Genesis” at www.genesisuk.org and Helen is raising money for the Genesis Appeal at www.justgiving.com/helen-proud and all donations will be entered into a prize draw for the chance to win a two week full board yoga holiday to Kerala in India. The summer exhibition at the Oriel Plas Glyn y Weddw runs until September 5th for more information go to www.oriel.org.uk and www.rosanaibarrola.co.uk
